I lead the technological development for Umbulizer. We're a company that aims to provide cheap and effective healthcare in low-resource settings.
My work at Umbulizer started as a Mechanical and Electrical engineer working on creating designs and prototypes for a cheap, easy-to-build, and maintain ventilator. Over the next 3 years and 9 prototypes, I refined the design based on real-world data; from human interaction studies to clinical trials on animals and humans. We obtained patents and FDA approvals in early 2020, and went from in-house prototypes to setting up manufacturing and starting operations in the US and overseas in Mid 2020.
During this time we received funds and resources to grow our technical team and I took on a leadership role ensuring that user needs were being transitioned into product requirements, set targets for the engineering teams, ensuring cross-collaboration between stakeholders across mechanical, electrical, software, and regulatory domains. Also managing expectations of the sales and execution branches, always striving to keep R&D and manufacturing costs to a minimum while maximizing output.
